April Fool’s Day is just around the corner, and as usual this means that we can expect a little mischief coming from the great minds at Google’s headquarters.
This year’s hijinx will turn your hometown streets into a live game of Pac-Man via Google Maps. The mini-game features Pac-Man sounds and sights — including the death sequence and intermission tune.
Here’s how you can experience yourself:
- Head to Google Maps, and find yourself an area with lots of roads (I suggest using New York City).
- Click the big Pac-Man icon on the bottom left of your map. This will ready the game.
- Click the speaker in the top right corner of the blue panel to enable sounds.
You will be able to play Pac-Man anywhere Google Maps has enough streets to show on screen. If you’re located in a rural area, or on a long stretch of highway, you may get an error message. If that happens either zoom out a bit or search for another location to get your fix of Pac-Man chomping down streets and chasing down Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde. It’s like that movie Pixles but in real,…real life?
So what do you think of this year’s Google prank? Does it compare to last year’s Google Maps hack when we had to travel the globe to collect Pokémon?
