This post is way overdue but I wanted to share you with all one of the best nights of my life.
So I’m a huge fan of the Impractical Jokers on TruTv. If you’re unfamiliar with the show, it’s about four real-life best friends (Joe Gatto, Sal Vulcano, James Murray and Brian Quinn) who dare each other to do the most hysterical stunts to innocent strangers which are all caught on hidden camera. It’s basically the best hidden camera show on television right now, and possibly ever made.
Two of the jokers, Sal & Q, also host a weekly podcast entitled “What Say You?” to which I’m an avid listener (Seriously go check it out after you read this – it’s extremely entertaining).
In one of the episodes the guys were talking about planning a What Say You? Podcast get-together for fans at a live Gallagher show (The prop comedian who smashes watermelons and such). In previous podcast episodes the guys talked about how they have seen Gallagher in the past and they thought it would be a good idea to meet some of their listeners in person during one of Gallagher’s show in March.
They had chosen a show in NJ that was relatively close to where I live. I ended purchasing tickets figuring that if I didn’t get to see Sal and Q, I’d still have a good time at the show as it was part of Gallagher’s Last Smash Farewell tour.
The day finally came and I arrived with my girlfriend an hour early extremely anxious to see how this night would play out. We waited in the lobby with about 5 other people, until we see Gallagher himself walking into the lobby. This was AWESOME.
Of course my initial thoughts were that I had to get a picture with him, but this move was internally debated on as he seemed a little irritated regarding an issue with some of his merch not being available. I finally found the courage to go up to him and ask for a picture. He was more than happy to oblige – and of course once that happened the flood gates opened and then everyone in the room started asking him for a picture.
So after that we waited around in the lobby, and there was still no sign of Sal and Q. With show time approaching fast, we decided to wait outside in hopes of catching them at door. Ten minutes pass by until we heard some noticeable voices down the street.
Yes. Sal and Q were making their way to theater. We saw them in the distance stopped by two other ladies who were also What Say You? fans. As we approached and waited close by for their small talk to end with the girls – Sal turned to us and asked if we were What Say You? fans. We replied with an enthusiastic YES!
Q was live-podcasting at the time, so when they formerly introduced themselves to us, and we introduced ourselves to them we were speaking into the podcast recorder. MIND-BLOWN.
The audio of this is not available yet – but Sal and Q did mention that it will be released soon. So once Declan Quinn owner of Creaky Studios masters the audio – I’ll update this post and link it here.
So now not only am I completely blown away by the fact that I’ve just met Sal and Q, the thought of being on a future episode of What Say You? multiplied that feeling tenfold.
We continued to walk down the sidewalk toward the theater as more WSY fans approached, showering Sal and Q with pickles (just listen to the podcasts to understand). We ended up taking a picture of initial group.
We headed into the theater, where more WSY fans awaited and we took more pictures with Gallahger.
With the show about to start I ended up buying Sal and Q a drink – it was the least I could do to thank them for the entertainment they provided.
The Gallagher show ended up being fantastic. Lots of jokes, and of course pieces of watermelon, corn, flour and other food items smashed across the theater. Gallagher even referenced the What Say You? group throughout the night, so that was pretty cool too!
After the show Sal and Q invited the bunch of us to go out drinking with them. The group was torn between going to a local bar on foot, or a karaoke bar that was a 10 minute car ride away. The choice was decided by vote in hysterical WSY fashion and the Karaoke bar ended up wining.
We settled at Rivera’s in Fair Lawn – The Owl Pub. Although I have to admit the 10 minute car ride there was a bit surreal. In my head I was thinking – alright well we are just on our way to hang out with some dudes who are absolutely blowing up on TV right now, no big deal. It was wild to think about sharing a couple brews with Sal and Q that night – and even now.
We arrived at the same time Q and Sal got there and were able to grab a quick selfie before we went in.
We had an absolute blast legitimately all night. There was karaoke, watermelon shots, Sal and Q were mingling with everyone – it was a great time. They are exactly what they are like on TV. Hysterical, down to earth and absolute class acts. Two of the most personable guys I have ever met.
We ended up chatting more with Q that night. For those of you don’t know – Q is a huge geek, we talked about the future London WSY Podcast, Comic Con, The Legend of Zelda, Gremlins, Ghostbusters and of course how beautiful my girlfriend is on multiple accounts – Thanks Q. It’s also entirely possibly that I could be helping the guys out with Social Media/Website work in the future – so that’s exciting!
To say the least, it was absolutely one of the best nights of my life. After re-calling this story I probably should have just podcast it! There are so many little details to talk about. So if you guys have any questions you want to ask me about this night feel free to reach out to me on Twitter!
