Cloud Joins Super Smash Bros.

In what could be the most mind blowing thing that has happened in the gaming industry to date – Nintendo has added an unexpected cameo character to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. That character is Final Fantasy VII’s Cloud Strife.

Cloud and a stage based on Final Fantasy’s Midgar area will be released together, although Nintendo hasn’t specified a release date or price yet. The Midgar stage seems to be chock full of Final Fantasy references and.. wait did you see those summons!? My mind is still blown.

This is the second downloadable character from a totally separate publisher to be announced since the game’s release last fall. In June, Nintendo released Ryu from Street Fighter for both the 3DS and Wii U versions of Smash Bros., with a matching stage as well.

Cloud will wield his trademark, gigantic Buster Sword, and will come with different costumes inspired by his appearances. The trailer shows many of his trademark moves, along with what I believe is the best finisher in gaming history – Omnislash.

With this announcement we can all assume that Nintendo is planning to create a Amiibo figure for Cloud. Based on everyone’s reaction, and how hard Amiibos hunting has been, we can expect demand to be high.
